Yes, we really are taking a 6 month honeymoon around the world

It was something I tried not to broadcast in the office, but sure enough word slowly leaked out. It started when I turned down a full time conversion offer from my current employer (not to mention the other offers I've passed on, but if you don't understand the concept of "commitment", then why are you reading a wedding blog?). It caught my boss a little by surprise; they love having me here and it's a great job, but I told him what our plans were and that was that. However, they were gracious enough to keep me until the day I leave, so it's a win-win. Throw in some remote work while I'm away and a standing job offer when I return and it's a win-win-win. I'm tri-winning. Take that Charlie Sheen. I'm tired of pretending my life isn't totally bitchin and awesome too, but I'm opting for the ultimate honeymoon instead of ultimate meltdown...

Most people in this city live with the drudgery of the 9-5 or worse. Having far flung escapist fantasies as a result isn't unheard of, it's the following through that is not so common. Worrying about resentment from co-workers, or worse, talking about my personal life at work when I should be TCB, I didn't send out a memo or make it wide spread news, but sure enough I would be asked questions here and there... outside the water cooler, while on hold for a conference call, by random co-workers walking by, and then again this morning before hot-sheet. Though this morning's encounter was a little more in-depth as it went beyond the "I heard you were...". For the first time, someone actually asked me not just when and how long, but what the flight situation was. It never occurred to me that there are people that never heard of Around the World tickets, and that they generally cost around $3,000. Judging by their reaction, I would guess there's at least four people googling it right now, I wonder if I could get a referral commission?

So yes, we really are taking a 6 month honeymoon around the world. We have our one way ticket to Berlin, but that's it. We're committed, but didn't want to "be committed". Planning a wedding AND a trip like this at the same time would have drove us insane. Stay tuned as our wedding blog becomes our travel blog :)
