Potential Disaster

My dress came in the mail on Wednesday and the post office left a notice on our door because we weren't home. I had to wait until Saturday to go pick it up, so that's the first thing we did that morning. As we were carrying the box home I turned to Bill and commented that in about 10 minutes we could have a huge potential disaster on our hands. I had not seen my dress in person or had any fittings and I couldn't return it because it had some custom changes made. But, lucky for Bill I put everything on and it fit perfectly. I am totally in love with it, it's made beautifully and I can't believe the process was so easy. You are coridially invited

The invitations are finally done, whew!  This took more than a few weeks, deservedly so.  Fingers crossed... going to print this weekend, in the mail by Wednesday...

Due Credit

As with most good ideas, they're just old ideas rebranded, repackaged and resold without anyone the wiser.  In this instance however, I would like to give credit where credit is due.  The idea of the pinwheel as table assignment and parade souvenir comes from our friend Wes.  Every year at his annual holiday party there is a white elephant gift exchange and pictionary tournament.  The glasses he hands out to guests have a little card with a decoration and number that determines your pictionary team and white elephant order.  It's pretty clever, although by this year everyone had caught on and there was a little card trading action going on, but I digress...  We found this approach to be both a creative and efficient solution to several of the small details we needed to address. It's more like three birds with one stone as opposed to the traditional two but this isn't exactly going to be a traditional wedding.

DIY

we are trying to make our wedding as fun and as cheap as possible. "fun" and "cheap" are rarely found in the same sentence as "new york city" so this has proved to be a daunting task. we had made a long list of everything we needed for the wedding- from hair and make up, to rings, to the ceremony space and music. its really crazy how quickly things added up. i decided that the best way to save money was to DIY the hell out of mostly everything. flowers? nope, no flowers. i'm making a brooch bouquet using brooches i found at flea markets, ebay, cheap shops and some very special donations from grandma :) those are mixed in with ribbon flowers im making from scratch. centerpieces? the table decorations will be mini versions of my bouquet placed in vintage glass bottles that we have been buying on ebay. i dont know how any budget bride has survived without ebay, its amazing. handmade pinwheels will serve as table assignments, parade decorations and the center of the centerpieces (think of a pinwheel bouquet in the middle of the table) all in one.decorations? the ceremony space is getting many dozens of handmade tissue paper pom poms that will (hopefully) hang from the ceiling. and we will be hanging them ourselves the night before, as well as setting up the chairs and preparing the mimosa bar. i'm not going to lie, i've been a little stressed lately. as many crafty people know, things never turn out right the first time you attempt it. it takes a practice, patience, and yards of ribbon before one of those flowers comes out looking correct. but doing things this way freed up our very tight budget for the more important things: alcohol and really good food!!!
